We kicked off this month with our Run with the Girls 5K event. This event was the largest one yet - with 325 Girls on the Run-Sierras participants crossing the coveted finish line on Sunday, November 6th. If we take into account their running buddies, that means we had 650+ athletes joining forces to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident.
We were out in force interviewing athletes and their loved ones before and after the event to see just how Girls on the Run made an impact on their lives, this is what we heard.
“Girls on the Run is so important to bring all the young women together and to show community support, health, and just getting out there and involved in the local community. It’s just a phenomenal community to be a part of to empower little girls from a very young age”
Kristi Yenick, GOTR Mom
“I learned a lot from Coach Sarah, she taught me to always be positive. She’s awesome!”
Jaelynn, GOTR Participant
“My favorite part of girls on the run is that i get to see all my friends. I learned what SBLR means - stop, breathe, listen, and respond. When you see someone getting bullied you should SBLR.”
Kayley, GOTR Participant
"Girls on the run started my running career, and after that I never stopped. I had the confidence and strength to achieve anything I wanted to - and it all started with that first 5K."
Delaney White, Current Nevada Wolf Pack Athlete, and GOTR Alumna
