Mental Health Awareness Week

October is Mental Health Awareness Month and we wanted to share some tips on improving your mental health and boosting your mood!

Tip #1: Go for a walk! According to the Heart Foundation, walks are beneficial in many ways. Daily or even weekly walks help to lower stress, reduce anxiety and clear brain fog. Light exercise, such as walking, aids in better and more restful sleep. Grabbing a friend or family member to join you is also a fantastic way to boost your social life and mood. Learn more about how walking is beneficial for your health here.

Tip #2: According to the Sleep Foundation, sufficient sleep helps the brain to process memories, emotions, and enables better thinking. Sleep is heavily linked to mental health. It is possible that lack of restful sleep can be both a cause and a consequence of mental health issues. Implementing a relaxation and sleep routine, such as going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, can have a positive impact on both physical and mental health. Learn more about the benefits of sleep here.

Tip #3: Journaling is a great, and private outlet, for processing our thoughts, fears, and emotions. According to the University of Rochester Medical Center, journaling can help us to understand and better control our emotions. Journaling often leads to better conceptualizing our triggers and finding solutions to problems. In broad terms, journaling can help individuals in managing stress, coping with depression, and reducing anxiety. Learn more about journaling here.
